WALKERS INFORMATION

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO WALKERS FOR 2022:
The runners this year will start at 10:00am. In previous years, the race started at 2:00pm.
There will be a large number of runners leaving the field as a large group at 10:00am.
The first mile of the long walk route will be very congested at that time, especially at the narrow bridge around 0.5 mile.
Walkers on the long walk are requested to start before 9:40am (or after 10:00am) and to complete the first mile as quickly as possible.
PLEASE GIVE WAY TO THE RUNNERS. THE LEADING RUNNERS WILL BE GOING VERY QUICKLY.

WATER:
To reduce our wastage from cups, etc..., we ask walkers to please carry their own water. Please do not rely on the water stations on the course which are provided for the runners and will close when the last runner goes through. The runners start at 10:00am.

ROUTES: Two marked walks are available; the 13.1 mile half-marathon distance, which largely follows the same route that the runners take, and a shorter 5 mile walk more suitable for families and younger walkers who may wish to take a gentle stroll with picnic. Both routes include tracks, public roads and footpaths around Otmoor. Maps of the courses are available at the Start. The walks start and finish on the playing field at the Millennium Hall in Horton cum Studley (OX33 1AD), Free parking and toilets are available at the Hall. A commemorative badge is awarded to walkers finishing before 3:00pm.

REGISTRATION
Registration and first starts for walkers is from 8:30am, with last starts at 10:30am. Check-in for finishers will close at 3:00pm.

Pre-entry is not required by those wishing to take part in the Otmoor Challenge Walk.
However, to save yourself time during Registration, you can download and print the registration form in advance.
Take the completed form, together with your entry fee, to the Registration Desk on Saturday morning before starting the walk.

ENTRY FEES
Entry fees for walkers (for both courses) are:

  • Adults and children over 13 = £7
  • Children 6-12 = £3
  • Children 5 and under = Free
All walkers must pay an entry fee on the day.

DOGS
Dogs are welcome, but must be kept under control at all times. Owners are responsible for picking up and disposing of dog mess in appropriate bins.
Please carry water for your dog, because the water stations will close as the last runners go through.

SPONSORSHIP
The Otmoor Challenge Association encourages walkers to gain sponsorship for their favourite charities. However, the Association does not organise sponsorship on behalf of walkers, nor accepts sponsorship in lieu of the appropriate entry fee. Walkers should collect their own sponsorship funds and pass them directly to the charity concerned.
